WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. — Two thousand, nine-hundred and seventy-seven steps.
That’s how many stair climbs participants at Wake Forest University’s Allegacy Stadium took Wednesday, each one symbolizing a life lost in the September 11th terrorist attacks.
“Each of these steps reminds us about one of the killed in those terrorist attacks. And so each step is representing one of those lives,” said Retired Colonel Sean Hannah.
The “Climb to Remember” has become a tradition in Winston-Salem, organized for more than a decade by Wake Forest’s No Fear Army ROTC Battalion. What began as a small gathering has grown into one of the Triad’s largest 9/11 remembrance events.
