A Sept. 5 deadline for filing campaign finance reports has spurred the latest volley in the battle over the $1.1 billion Catalyst project, with one issue committee filing its report and the other denying that last Friday’s deadline applied to them.
Greeley Deserves Better, the group that launched a successful petition drive to place the issue on the Nov. 4 municipal ballot but was stymied last week when a Weld District judge blocked the measure pending further review, missed last Friday’s initial deadline to submit to the city clerk a list of its contributions and expenditures. Instead, the group cited provisions in state law to contend that because its issue will no longer appear on this fall’s ballot, it need not file a report until Nov. 1.
