When it came to sharing the often-painful memories he carried home from serving his country on battlegrounds halfway around the world, 2nd Lt. Bob Alamshah was something of an outlier.

He was a man who felt most comfortable speaking in depth about his wartime experiences rather than follow the natural tendency of servicemen and women to bury their war-inflicted demons deep inside in hopes they will one day disappear.

For nearly eight years, Alamshah, a longtime Londonderry resident who died last month at age 80 in the same Home Health & Hospice Care facility where he earned the unofficial designation as "mayor" for his frequent, often lengthy visits, and dedicated himself to help create, and grow, an HHHC program called We Honor Veterans.
