Actress Polly Holliday, best known for playing the wisecracking waitress Flo on the sitcom “Alice,” has died. She was 88.

Her theatrical agent, Dennis Aspland, confirmed her death on Sept. 9 to the New York Times . It is believed she died due to pneumonia.

Holliday garnered national fame playing the tart-tongued Flo on the sitcom, who frequently spouted her catchphrase, “Kiss My Grits” to anyone who dared cross her.

She earned several Emmy nominations for playing Flo and won a Golden Globe Award for best supporting actress in a television series in 1979 and 1980. The character even got her own spin-off series, “Flo,” that only lasted one season.
