FARGO — Fargo North and Fargo South had clashed on the gridiron every single season since South High opened its doors in 1967.

Except for last season.

With North moving up to Division 3A, the Spartans filled their schedule with a full slate of 3A opponents in 2024. Meanwhile, South remained in Division 2A and with the exception of Fargo Shanley, the Bruins played exclusively 2A schools.

For the first time ever, the historic crosstown rivalry was not on the fall slate. It felt as if not playing the game should be illegal.

“Last year, not having (North) on the schedule was very odd,” South head coach Tyler Kosel said. “This is one we both circle. I tell our kids it’s the one that our alumni base and fan base … they always circle and tune into this one because regardless of your records,
