LAKELAND, Fla. (WFLA) — The Detroit Tigers had a groundbreaking for their new training facility on Wednesday, bringing some unexpected changes to spring training in Lakeland.
The Detroit Tigers Player Development Academy is a cutting-edge facility designed to elevate the player development of the team.
The four-story building replaces the aging Fetzer Hall player dormitory and is a collaborative investment between the team and the City of Lakeland, which has had a long-standing partnership since 1934.
The facility will serve as a year-round hub for Tigers minor league and developmental players. Its features include 76 sleeping rooms to house the players, a 200-seat dining hall, a spacious lounge and recreational area, a multi-purpose meeting room, and more.
