WARREN — City council is showing support to local businesses such as Thomas Steel Strip by passing a resolution for the company to receive congressional and White House exemption from the 50% tariff penalty on imported steel from any country.
“These tariffs will severely hamper their ability to provide the services and products that they do. We want our higher government officials to know how their decisions affect our local area and the workers who work there and the communities where these businesses are located. This affects our ability to prosper as a community because of these hindrances put on these companies” Councilman Todd Johnson, I-1st Ward, said.
He said the tariff situation and trade war is not helping local manufacturers.
“We want Thomas Steel Strip to be exempted from the
