ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) - The Mill Mountain Star, Roanoke’s most recognizable landmark, is undergoing repairs after inspectors discovered a safety issue during a recent inspection.
Officials found several loose bulbs that created the risk of live electrical connections striking the Star’s metal frame. Crews with Corell Electrical Contractors have been replacing damaged parts, re-securing bulbs, and checking wiring.
“We did find a couple broken pieces of neon glass, also some insulators that were damaged and broken, probably due to the extreme wind that we receive here sometimes in the Roanoke Valley,” said Robert Weber with Corell Electrical Contractors.
