The Lafayette Fire Department is enhancing its emergency response capabilities with new lifesaving technology, thanks to a grant from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.

The department was awarded a $21,646 grant to purchase a LUCAS Chest Compression System, a device that delivers consistent, high-quality automated chest compressions during cardiac arrest. Officials said the equipment will help minimize interruptions in blood flow, reduce rescuer fatigue and ultimately improve survival chances in critical emergencies.
