The Future of Farm Aid 40 is hanging by a thread. The event is scheduled to take place on 20 September at Huntington Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, featuring Willie Nelson, Neil Young, John Mellencamp, Dave Matthews and more. But whether the event is still held at the intended venue, or whether it goes on at all, is dependent on a resolution to a University of Minnesota labour strike. "Our artists, production team and partners have made clear that they will not cross a picket line," Farm Aid event organisers shared in a statement. "These decisions reflect our own values: the farm and labour movements are inseparable, and we believe strongly that the University must return to the bargaining table in good faith." Employees at the University of Minnesota began their strike on 9 September over new contract offers. CBS News reported that 12 people had been arrested in relation to the strike. Farm Aid organisers are currently looking at other options for hosting the event, but stressed that " it is not an easy task to pivot at this point". "We urge the University of Minnesota to settle this contract quickly so that Farm Aid 40 can proceed as intended." Farm Aid is an annual benefit concert that began in 1985 to support struggling farming families.
