MANCHESTER, N.H. —

Top elected leaders in New Hampshire are remembering Charlie Kirk and calling for an end to political violence after the right-wing activist was shot and killed while making an appearance at a Utah university.

Officials said they hope to turn down the partisan temperature amid a difficult moment for the country.

"Turning Point was a big reason why I'm a conservative today," said state Rep. Joe Alexander, R-Goffstown.

Alexander said Kirk helped to shape his political worldview, especially with what he called Kirk's emphasis on winning the war of ideas with words, not violence.
