GEORGETOWN COUNTY, S.C. (WCBD) —From the Lowcountry to the world stage this weekend, Melissa Jefferson-Wooden, one of the fastest women in the world, will compete in the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. Back home, friends and family are already cheering her on.
In Georgetown’s historic waterfront district, family members call her the People’s Champion. They’ll be watching closely as Melissa takes to the track.
“So we are over excited and over happy,” said Larry Lance, Jefferson's brother.
