Peoria, Ill. (WMBD) -- The latest drought monitor released on Thursday, Sept. 11, shows expanding and worsening drought conditions across the region. Many areas along and south of I-74 are now considered "Abnormally Dry," with "Moderate Drought" now being reported in McLean, Tazewell, and Woodford Counties.
After receiving near-average rainfall in June and July, things really started to dry out in August and that has continued into September. Since Aug. 1, Peoria has only managed to pick up 1.06", more than three and a half inches below average through Sept. 10. This makes this the 8th driest Aug. 1 through Sept. 10 period on record for Peoria.
