SOUTH BEND – It is not often a team faces a must-win game in Week 3, but Notre Dame has one Saturday night.

The eighth-ranked Irish (0-1) lost to now-No. 5 Miami in their season-opener and, after a bye in Week 2, get another to chance to notch a résumé-building victory with a matchup against No. 16 Texas A&M (2-0) at Notre Dame Stadium.

It might be their last such opportunity for a while. After the game against the Aggies, none of Notre Dame's final 10 opponents are ranked in this week's polls, meaning the Irish might have limited opportunities to impress the College Football Playoff selection committee. A loss to A&M to fall to 0-2 could doom any hopes of a return trip to the playoff before the season is a quarter complete.
