CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCBD) - 24 years since the world witnessed one of our country's darkest days, September 11th, 2001. In the Lowcountry, service members and first responders are honoring those who lost their lives.

As the national anthem was sang, "The land of the free and the home of the brave", United States Coast Guard Charleston Sector officer's carried the American Flag across the Charleston Riverdogs Stadium, this morning.

September 11th, 2001, is an unforgettable day in our country's history. Captain Colt Roy, Joint Base Charleston Fire and Emergency Services, explained, how he will never forget that day.

"I was in highschool and my teacher said, 'everybody let's go'. She was running, and she turned around and goes, 'you know the Twin Towers?, they're gone'", said Roy.
