FORT SMITH, Ark. (KNWA/KFTA) — On the campus of the University of Arkansas-Fort Smith, the Reserve Officers' Training Corps program held its annual stair climb Sept. 11, which is held as a 9/11 memorial.
ROTC members, along with Fort Smith and Van Buren police officers and firefighters and residents, climbed 110 flights of stairs at the Stubblefield Center.
James Tyndall is a senior ROTC member at U-A-F-S. He says the annual event is an incredible way to remember the heroes who ran toward danger.
"I feel like for us, we just think that it's a big deal because everyone did risk their lives, and hopefully one day we can help someone who is in need. And so, we just like to be able to kind of remember all those people who did die and also help fight.
The memorial honors the heroic efforts
