When Kendal Fink was diagnosed with autism at three years old, her parents immediately began advocating for her.

"Kendall is my amazing daughter. She is on the spectrum. She's non-verbal. She has some safety awareness. She's the happiest kid that you'll ever meet," Kendal's mother, Nicholle Fink, told Pittsburgh's Action News 4 anchor Shannon Perrine. Advertisement

Autism Pittsburgh eventually started working with Kendal, and her parents learned about the K-9 program.

Initially, they did not think it would be an option for her.
