SWANTON, Ohio — Superintendents from across Fulton County are uniting to push back against talk of consolidating school districts in northwest Ohio, saying such a move would harm local communities and traditions.

The school leaders say some state lawmakers are pushing consolidation as a way to cut costs, but they argue it would come at too high a price for students, taxpayers and community identity.

“Our goal as superintendents in Fulton County is to be able to advocate for our school districts,” said Jayson Selgo, superintendent of Archbold Area Schools. “Whether that’s a seat at the table for all of us, some of us, or through our professional organizations, we want a way to communicate with legislators to represent Northwest Ohio and the way we do things up here.”
