SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) - The nation is remembering the men and women who died on September 11, 2001, in the terrorist attacks on the World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a plane that crashed in Pennsylvania.

Every year on its anniversary, Sioux Falls Fire Rescue remembers 9/11 as well.

More flags than usual were flying in Sioux Falls today for the anniversary of 9/11.

And in front of Fire Station 3 along Minnesota Avenue, there were 343 of them.

"It's unifying, it's a sign of patriotism, it's a sign of remembrance," Rob Flannery with Sioux Falls Fire Rescue said.

These flags are in remembrance of the 343 fire fighters who died on September 11, 2001, while responding to the terrorist attack on the World Trade Center in New York City.
