FRANKFORT, Ky. — Advocates with Moms Demand Action and other groups seeking safer gun legislation rallied at the State Capitol in Frankfort, rallying for the legislature to act in addressing gun violence.

Hundreds of those advocates, many gun violence survivors gathered in the rotunda Wednesday. They shared how guns have affected their lives and want lawmakers to take notice.

According to a press release from the group, Kentucky has the 14th highest rate of gun deaths in the U.S. with an average of 840 Kentuckians dying by guns a year. Elgina Smith lost her son to gun violence in Louisville.

“We have these conversations; we keep adding names to the list that shouldn’t exist and yet the laws remain the same,” Smith said.
