JACKSONVILLE, N.C. (WITN) - A single bell could be heard across the Lejeune Memorial Gardens as it rang and paid tribute during the Onslow Civic Affairs Patriot Day Observance to the nearly 3,000 lives that were lost 24 years ago.
“I think the most important piece is that we got to remember this,” Onslow County Civic Affairs committee chair Brent Anderson said.
Dozens of first responders, Marines, and community members arrived at the garden on Thursday in solidarity.
“It’s always a very sobering day, you know. You think about the firefighters, the police officers, the people on the airplanes, the people in buildings and the Pentagon.
