TEMPLE, Texas — After multiple legislative sessions failed to pass bills regulating hemp-derived THC products, Governor Greg Abbott took matters into his own hands on Sept. 10 by issuing an executive order aimed at keeping the products away from minors.
The executive order directs the Texas Department of State Health Services and the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission to implement restrictions on THC product sales. Key provisions include banning sales to minors, requiring ID verification for all purchases and revoking permits for retailers who violate the new rules.
The Department of State Health Services must also consider implementing stricter testing and labeling requirements, along with higher licensing fees for businesses selling these products.
