KENT, Ohio — The Goodyear Blimp is celebrating a milestone: 100 years in the skies .
If you could travel back in time to 1925, you would have seen Pilgrim, Goodyear's first helium-filled airship, lift off from what was then called Stow Field. That same airfield is now Kent State University Airport, where the anniversary was marked this past weekend with a special visit from Wingfoot One.
"The airships kind of tend to bring on a little bit of a sense of wonderment with folks," said Adam Basaran, who is an assistant chief pilot for Goodyear.
Wingfoot One recently touched down for Kent State's Aeronautics and Engineering Expo, an event honoring the early days of aviation. It also marked the place where Pilgrim was first christened a century ago.
"The airship right now, it's all gray,"
