A Salisbury man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly made a series of bomb threats online directed toward an Everett city councilor, according to officials and a police report.
Scott Merchant, 36, was charged with “bomb/terroristic threats” and threatening to commit a crime, to wit murder, the Salisbury Police Department said in a statement .
He was arraigned in Newburyport District Court and pleaded not guilty to the charges, according to court records.
Merchant’s attorney, Stephen Roth, said his client denies the allegations.
“He’s a hardworking family man and ... is fully intending to fight these charges,” Roth said. He declined to comment further.
