ANY parent trying to secure an appointment with a paediatrician knows how difficult the process can be.
Difficulties with costs, access and battling long wait times are the main struggles for parents with children who have ADHD (attention deficit hyperactivity disorder) or who are seeking a diagnosis.
But in the space of 12 months, a pilot program has eased this burden and helped hundreds of children and families by freeing up more than 700 paediatric outpatient appointments in the Western NSW Local Health District (WNSWLHD).
The success of this project, spearheaded by the ADHD and Behaviour Management Service, was acknowledged at the recent WNSWLHD Awards , with the group taking out two categories - Health Equity and ACI Rural Innovation.
