COLUMBIA — Following a price increase proposal by the Columbia City Council for parking meters in downtown Columbia, The District and the City Council will meet on Tuesday to discuss the future of the proposal.
The proposal will increase meter prices from 60 cents an hour to $1 an hour, a 40-cent increase.
The latest changes to meters happened in July, when the city's Public Works Department updated time limits to meters throughout downtown.
Morgan Boyles owns Broadway Hair Company, a salon downtown. She said the proposed price increase is not the issue, but more so the lack of parking availability. It has gotten to the point that it has affected her business, she said.
"There is hardly ever a meter open," Boyles said. "The garages are full. That's our struggle as a business owner
