PRINCE GEORGE'S COUNTY, Md. — Prince George’s County leadership welcomed a new development in a fight to help some of the county’s renters on Friday.
Maryland Attorney General Anthony Brown joined County Executive Aisha Braveboy to announce that the owners of Heather Hill Apartments will pay $11.2 million in restitution to tenants, after years of neglecting the property.
“This case should put every landlord on notice: you can’t cash rent checks while your tenants live in unsafe conditions,” he said.
Tenants shared their stories of just how bad things were in the complex. Armoni Barbour has been living in Heather Hill Apartments since 2021. She says she's had to struggle with mold, and a broken window and A/C unit, all while pregnant with her daughter.
