NEW HAVEN, Connecticut — A woman from Newark, N.J. has been indicted and charged in connection to the attempted deposit of a stolen U.S. Treasury check at a Connecticut credit union.

A federal grand jury in Bridgeport has returned an indictment charging Madisyn Pettaway, 30, with bank fraud, conspiracy to commit bank fraud, theft of government property and aggravated identity theft.

This was announced in a report released Thursday by the Interim U.S. Attorney for the District of Connecticut.

Court documents alleged that on Aug. 27, 2024, Pettaway used a stolen identity and fake New Jersey driver’s license to open an account at a branch of Charter Oak Federal Credit Union.
