BURKE COUNTY, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A special meeting was held this evening to discuss the budget for the Burke County Sheriff’s Office.

According to commissioners, the Burke County Sheriff’s Office is projected to run out of funds in three days.

Commissioners reported that Sheriff Alfonzo Williams initiated the meeting but did not attend. Instead, they claim he sent an email to the county attorney and manager, formally requesting funds to hire a lawyer to file a motion for a temporary restraining order.

Commissioners believe this is intended to prevent commissioners from approving the proposed 2026 budget, which he argues does not allocate a reasonable budget for him to fulfill his legal responsibilities.
