INDIANAPOLIS — IndyGo riders got the chance Thursday night to learn about fare increases coming next year.
One big change discussed during the open house at the Julia M. Carson Transit Center in downtown Indianapolis was the increase in the base fare from $1.75 to $2.75. IndyGo officials pointed to rising costs of fuel and operations for the price increase. They said the price in the base fare hasn't increased in 16 years.
They're holding the open houses to make sure riders are prepared when the changes take effect on Jan. 1.
"Long term, this keeps our system sustainable. When we increase these fares, unfortunately, it's not one of those things where immediately you're going to see new buses and those kinds of things, but it is going to maintain our service, it's going to continue to ke
