BATON ROUGE, La. (Louisiana First) — Today serves as a reminder not just to the tragedy of September 11, but the resilience and unity that followed. For the Prairieville community, that message remains just as powerful today.

The memory of 9/11 still weighs heavily on first responders.

"To see the devastation that happened to the fire service that day up there with the fire department in New York and the police officers and everybody, you know, it hit very close to home for me, being a firefighter," said Ascension Parish Fire Chief Mike Stewart.

Being a first responder to the events on this day, twenty-four years ago. Stewart said that the same risk still exists every day in Louisiana.
