ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (KRQE) – An Albuquerque man who went on a crime spree, including the murder of a hotel security guard, will spend the next four decades behind bars. This week, Donovan Bookout was found guilty of first-degree murder and multiple other crimes stemming from a violent 2022 crime spree. Court documents show the spree included the shooting death of Daniel "Heath" Mora, a security guard at the Ambassador Inn in northeast Albuquerque.
The Bernalillo County District Attorney says Bookout's competency was questioned several times throughout the case. But after the jury considered testimony from 15 different witnesses, the court found Bookout guilty. A judge sentenced him to 41 years at the behavioral health hospital in Las Vegas, New Mexico.
