CALLOWAY COUNTY – With much of this end of the state facing a severe drought, Murray and Calloway County are now under an official burn ban until further notice.

Calloway County is currently classified by the U.S. Drought Monitor as D2 (Severely Dry). The intensity scale ranges from D0 (Abnormally Dry) to D4 (Exceptional Drought), and it is updated every Thursday. Murray Mayor Bob Rogers said he relies on the Murray Fire Department to make recommendations concerning burn bans, so with dry conditions expected to continue for the foreseeable future, he signed a burn ban order Thursday morning.
