MANISTIQUE — Several area cross country runners, including a trio of freshmen, continued to show promise in the Manistique Invitational here Wednesday.
Rock Mid Peninsula freshman Ashdeyn Gerow placed second and classmate Eli Stiglitz took fifth in the boys’ 3.1-mile race and Rapid River freshman Julia Poma was third among the girls on this cloudy and mild day at Stony Point Golf Course.
Munising junior Blake Lakosky was the boys’ winner in 18:19.7, followed by Gerow at 18:42.2 and Rapid River junior Jon Denkins (18:48.5). Stiglitz was clocked in 18:59.2.
“Our freshmen ran well today,” Mid Pen coach Carl Brunngraeber said. “We didn’t have a full team, but had a good day. This is absolutely a learning experience for them. This was a good meet and Manistique did a nice job hosting it.”
