AKRON, Ohio – The 23rd annual FirstEnergy Akron Marathon, Half Marathon & Team Relay returns to the city’s downtown Sept. 26 and 27. This year’s race features a new course, a new finish line on South Main Street and appearances by Akron’s own Olympic medalist Butch Reynolds.
An Archbishop Hoban graduate, Reynolds rose to prominence in 1987 when he set the low-altitude world record of 44.10 in the 400 at the Jesse Owens Classic, according to the USA Track and Field website .
Reynolds also broke the world record in the 400 in 1988 in Zurich where he ran 43.29, besting the 43.86 world record previously set by Lee Evans during the 1968 Olympic Games in Mexico City. Reynolds’ achievements also include the 1993 World Indoor title; 1988 Olympic 400 silver and 4x400 gold; three World Outdoor 4
