Major flight delays are expected over the weekend due to a shortage of air traffic controllers at Sydney Airport, with flight disruption warnings throwing a spanner in the works for many travellers.
Airservices Australia (AA) confirmed the staffing shortage was because a number of air traffic controllers (ATCs) have become "unwell".
A spokeswoman confirmed departures between 3.30pm and 4pm would be impacted.
There are no impacted arrivals flights.
“Airservices is working with the airlines to minimise disruptions during this period. We sincerely apologise to airlines and the travelling public for any delays,” the spokeswoman said.
Sydney Airport said passengers needed to check with their airline regarding the status of their flight.
