Firefighters with the U.S. Forest Service in Siskiyou County wrapped historic buildings in a material that reflects heat away from them when they're exposed to wildfire. They hope to protect some of the North State's historic treasures from the uncontained Log Fire .
Ignited by lightning on Aug. 26 roughly 19 miles west of Etna and Highway 3 (29 miles southwest of Yreka), the Log Fire burned 1,169 acres in the Six Rivers and Klamath national forests' wilderness, incident spokesperson Ryan Berlin said on Wednesday.
The blaze reached the Wooley Creek drainage, where it threatens historic buildings including the Wooley Creek cabins and those at English Peak Lookout, Berlin said.
