The Trump administration has pulled $350 million in federal grants from some of the country’s most diverse colleges, a move that will strip Nevada institutions like UNLV of millions in student support and has ignited outrage from the state’s leaders.
Education Secretary Linda McMahon announced late Wednesday that programs once set aside for minority-serving institutions will be eliminated, calling them “inherently racist” and rooted in “government-mandated racial quotas.”
The $350 million was the total of seven grant programs aimed at supporting minority enrollment in science and engineering programs, strengthening predominantly Black institutions, Asian American- and Native American-serving colleges, and developing Hispanic-servin
