Newport schools are doomed without changes
Regionalization is hiding a far larger issue.
I recently watched the Aug. 13 Newport City Council and Aug. 12 Newport School Committee meetings.
They both made it abundantly clear that the actual underlying issue in all of this newly resurfaced regionalization talk is the dwindling enrollment in our schools.
In the mad rush to regionalize, again, I have to ask, where are the discussions on making Newport affordable enough for the existing working-class families to stay here and send their children to our schools?
