Striped bass have been overfished and are under a stock rebuilding plan that is not working. So, to rebuild the stock by 2029, both recreational and commercial measures must be taken to reduce the 2026 harvest by 12%.

The Atlantic States Marine Fisheries Commission that regulates striped bass in Rhode Island waters is seeking public comment on Draft Addendum III to Amendment 7 to the Interstate Fishery Management Plan for Atlantic Striped Bass, which considers management measures to support the 2029 rebuilding plan.

The Draft Addendum also addresses a coastwide definition of total length for size limit regulations.
