Hickory Mayor Hank Guess delivered remarks from Union Square on Thursday about the events of 9/11, recalling a time of unity.
“We remember how, in the face of tragedy, our nation came together, not as strangers, but as neighbors,” Guess said.
Hickory residents and officials gathered at Union Square on Thursday morning for a Patriot Day remembrance ceremony.
The ceremony was held primarily to remember lives lost during the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks.
LaRhonda Carlton opened the ceremony singing “God Bless America” and later performed “The Star-Spangled Banner” and “Amazing Grace.” Friendship Baptist Church pastor Antonio Logan delivered an opening and closing prayer.
WHKY radio station host Hal Rowe read a timeline of events that happened on 9/11 and remembered the 2,977 pe
