A political crisis in France has exploded into violent street confrontations, with 300 people arrested as protesters clashed with police across the country.

Demonstrators have taken their anger against President Macron to the streets, cutting off major roads and highways in coordinated acts of civil disobedience.

The protests turned destructive in Paris, where angry crowds set fire to bins and torched a restaurant as tensions reached boiling point.
