ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - A youth football coach is facing charges after an incident during practice this week.

The South Fulton Police Department charged the volunteer coach after a 12-year-old boy was injured at Old National Park on Monday night and airlifted to the hospital.

Jonathan Richard Sagers faces a felony charge of first-degree cruelty to children and a misdemeanor battery charge.

During a Thursday news conference, Cedric Alexander, South Fulton Public Safety’s interim managing director, said 911 dispatch received a call about an unresponsive 12-year-old boy at the park around 7:43 p.m.

The boy was airlifted to the Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta Arthur M. Blank Hospital, where he was treated and released that night “with no major injuries,” Alexander said.
