Ruben Amorim has announced that new signing Senne Lammens will not start in the upcoming Manchester derby. Instead, he has opted for Altay Bayindir as the first-choice goalkeeper. The match is set to take place at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.
Lammens, a 23-year-old goalkeeper, was signed from Royal Antwerp on transfer deadline day. Manchester United agreed to pay an initial fee of £18.2 million, with an additional £3.5 million in potential add-ons. Following his signing, speculation arose regarding who would take the goalkeeping position against Manchester City.
Amorim addressed this speculation during a pre-match press conference, stating, "Different league, different country, different ball. They will fight for the position. It is clear. Altay will start. He's ready to play, he will play."
Bayindir has been the starting goalkeeper for United in all three of their opening Premier League matches this season. However, he did not feature for Turkey during the recent international break, as he remained on the bench while his national team conceded eight goals in two matches.
Bayindir joined United in September 2024 for a fee of £4.3 million. Lammens is expected to be on the bench for the derby, alongside three of his teammates who will miss the match due to injury. Amorim confirmed that Diogo Dalot, Mason Mount, and Matheus Cunha are all unavailable for selection.
As the match approaches, updates will continue to be provided regarding team news and developments.
