A United Airlines passenger flight made an emergency landing at Kansai International Airport in Japan after a fire broke out in the plane's cargo hold, Japanese media reported.
The flight landed at around 7 p.m. local time in Kansai (6 a.m. ET) and passengers had to exit the plane through an emergency escape chute, NHK reported, citing information from the airport and transport ministry.
The service involved is United Airlines Flight 32 from Narita, Japan, to Cebu, the Philippines.
Aircraft-tracking data on the website Flightradar24 showed Flight UA32 departing Tokyo at around 5:40 p.m. local time. The plane had been Philippines-bound for 50 minutes when it turned back to Japan, the records showed.
