KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WATE) — A Knoxville man is facing a murder charge after his 3-month-old son died after becoming unresponsive in his care Thursday night, Knoxville Police said.

According to the police department, Adrien Dokes, 18, was charged with first-degree murder in the perpetration of aggravated child abuse after officers responded to a report that a 3-month-old boy was unresponsive at an apartment on Forestal Drive. Knoxville Police said the infant had multiple severe injuries and passed away at the East Tennessee Children's Hospital just after midnight.

Through their investigation, officers learned that when the child was in Dokes' care, he sustained the injuries that led to his death. Court records note that there were injuries around the child's jawline.
