The Toronto Blue Jays are hoping to hold onto a slim lead in the American League East division without one of their top players available.

The team placed franchise shortstop Bo Bichette on the injured list following a knee injury and will have to head toward the finish of the season without him. There's hope Bichette will be able to return after his minimum stint is finished, but in the meantime the Blue Jays have turned to a replacement who suffered his own injury.

The Blue Jays moved Ernie Clement into the shortstop role despite the fact that he's playing with a broken bone in his hand.
