ALBANY, N.Y. — New York Governor Kathy Hochul is urging New Yorkers to learn how to be prepared for emergencies during National Preparedness Month.

“Keeping New York safe is my top priority – and that starts with preparedness,” Hochul said in a release. “Here in New York, we know well the importance of being ready to act when disaster strikes. That is why I’m encouraging all New Yorkers to remember the essentials of preparedness and shore up their plans for when emergencies and disasters strike.”

The state is promoting its “Preparedness Starts at Home,” initiative which focuses on creating a family emergency plan, knowing risks, building an emergency supply and first aid kit and taking action in their communities.
