SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) -- The City of San Diego is reminding property owners that the deadline to enroll in the city’s updated trash and recycling service is fast approaching.
Residents eligible for city-provided trash collection must create an account and select their desired bin sizes by Sept. 30, or they will automatically receive the default containers.
The change comes as part of the rollout of the voter-approved Measure B and the city’s new Solid Waste Management Fee, which was implemented earlier this year.
City officials say the fee system ensures more equity, as previously only apartment dwellers and residents on private streets paid for trash pickup. Now, everyone receiving service will share the cost — freeing up funds for other public services.
