Charlottesville's city manager has alerted police to a threatening voicemail he received after the arrest of a local pedestrian advocate who defiantly chalked a crosswalk on a city road near where a woman was struck and killed by a motor vehicle.

The call came not from pedestrian advocate Kevin Cox but rather someone out of state who had been following his story and who told The Daily Progress he had grown frustrated with Charlottesville leaders who are unwilling or unable to do more to prevent pedestrian deaths.

"Why is it OK for people to get killed in the streets?" the caller asks Charlottesville City Manager Sam Sanders, according to a transcript of the June 2 message. "What the f--k is wrong with you?"
